Principal’s Message

Dear parents, staff and students,

I hope you had a wonderful summer break and were able to spend quality time with your loved ones.

I would like to welcome all our parents, students and teachers to the 2021 school year. I would like to take this opportunity to extend my warmest welcome to our new staff members, Year 7 students, new students and their parents. I wish all students and teachers a very successful, productive and joyful school year.

Firstly, I would like to introduce our 2021 management team; Esra Alver (Year 7 and 8 Coordinator), Laura Duncan (Year 9 and 10 Coordinator), Gordana Janev (Year 11 and 12 Coordinator), Tarik Terzi (Teaching and Learning Coordinator), Denise Rimoni (Student Support Coordinator) and Ruveyda Ozturk (Pastoral Care and Wellbeing Coordinator). Dear parents and students, please note that our dedicated teachers should be the first contact person regarding your concerns, followed by the coordinators.

On Thursday 11th of February, Our Year 10 and 12 students attended The Last Roll Call which serves to inspire and inform students about what recent alumni have decided to do. Recent graduates took to the stage and announced their future plans and shared their tips for VCE. Special thanks to Esma Yucel and Scott Westray for organizing this important event very successfully and smoothly, despite the difficult circumstances as a result of Covid restrictions.

Year 7 students will have a camp for two nights at YMCA Lady Northcote from Wednesday to Friday in Week 9. Camps are great tools to improve students’ friendship and life skills such as confidence, independence, teamwork, taking responsibility and helping others. I hope all our students will enjoy and learn a lot from this camp. Thanks in advance to our teachers who will be spending their time away from their families. A huge thanks to Ms Esra Alver for organising this camp for our Year 7 students. Our teachers’ and Year Level Coordinator’s efforts really deserve all my appreciation.

We have already completed Week 5 and students are nearly back into their study routines. It is very important that students have an organised daily schedule to maintain successful academic, social and behavioural performance. Education is a lifelong journey. Every little step counts. Listening to the teacher in class carefully, following up the classroom and school rules, completing tasks on time, participating in Pastoral Care activities and extracurricular activities regularly are just some of the important steps that we must take. These little steps and efforts will make a huge difference at the end of this journey, especially during VCE, in university years and beyond. Therefore, I would highly encourage parents to follow up their child’s academic, social and behavioural progress closely and ensure that students have a good study timetable, healthy diet, enough physical activity and a good night’s sleep. With your positive attitude and cooperation, I believe, we will be able to provide the best possible learning environment for our students’ ongoing academic, social and behavioural progress.

C.S. Lewis says, “Education without values, as useful as it is, seems rather to make man a more clever devil.” Therefore, we run many curricular and extracurricular activities at our school in order to provide values education. At Sirius College, our aim is to nurture a generation of students who are going to be role models and socially responsible Australian citizens. Knowledge and moral values are the most important features to be able to make positive contributions in society as a human being.

I hope you will enjoy our first newsletter for the 2021 school year. I wish everyone a very successful school year full of joy and happiness.

Kind regards,

Mr Ilhan Eroglu
